Can you recommend a relatively inexpensive DSLR camera?

I'm a high school student hoping on making a career in photography. I've never used an SLR camera before and am looking for an easy step up. I'd prefer a megapixel above 7.0 and a price below $900. Can anybody recommend me a camera that will last me for years as my skills advance?

I’d go with the Canon Rebel series. There are a few different body types but I think the XTI is under $900. Eventually, you’ll want to upgrade to the professional series, such as the 30D. Good luck.

hahaha $900 !!! you actually have a great budget … im also a high school studnt and scoping for a new DSLR. even though here in India I cant afford it, ill advice you to go for the Canon 20D which is an 8 megapixel camera with a 5 fps burst shoot, mind blowing performance… and what more !? its for $750 on Ebay! then go for a standard kit lens maybe 18-55mm. if you wanna get into fashion or portrait, the worlds best lens in this category with a pricing of $350 is the Canon 85mm F/1.8 !

The quick answer…
Go to B&H Photo and search using “Nikon D40X” and you will find this camera and 18-55 lens are well within your budget. It’s excellent. (I’m rushing off, but will try to get back to give my usual praise………)

I have the canon digital rebel xt (8mp) and it is awesome and very reliable, the camera costs around $600 so that leaves you with extra money to buy accessories, like lens’, tripod, bag, filters, flash, whatever you want. Or you could go for the newer version, which is the canon digital rebel xti (10.1), wich is closer to your budget, but is an even better camera. those are the two options that i strongly recommend
good luck!

Henry’s (www.henrys.com) has a Canon Digital Rebel with kit lens, used, for CDN$400.
If it’s not practical to order from them, you should be able to find a similar deal near you.
BTW if you’re thinking of actually trying to make money from photography, you need to start doing some serious planning now. It’s not that easy.
Hope this helps.
